Course Aims – What you will learn

This course is a part of our Health and Well Being curriculum designed to provide a wide variety of techniques that enable adults to manage their mental health and well being through the learning of new skills and healthy outlets. It aims to develop and improve your confidence and artistic skills by exploring a variety of watercolour techniques to help improve your mental health and wellbeing through creative expression. It is suitable for beginners and those with some experience in art. Join this peaceful and meditative approach to creating decorative surface and papers. Develop skills to unwind, gather self control and deeper meditation whilst gaining the skill of water surface tension painting. Our intention with this course is to provide a safe, supported opportunity for those with an interest in watercolours, or art generally, develop their confidence by teaching them to express their creativity through a variety of projects that will encourage their experimentation and exploration within the medium.

How you will be taught, and your understanding checked

Your tutor will work with you to understand your comfort level at the start of the course and helping agree a learning plan for you to get the most out of this course. In class, your lessons will be delivered through a mix of whole class demonstrations, individual projects, and open discussions to encourage the sharing of ideas and communication: all supported by your tutor. Your tutor will encourage you to develop your confidence in creativity through a range of situations and provide feedback to ensure you are getting the most from the course.

Progression – What you will be able to do next

Following the successful completion of this course, we intend for each student to be able to maintain their improved sense of self-confidence and wellbeing and encourage them to further pursue their own creativity. Students could enrol onto another of our art courses next term and explore other mediums which will broaden their artistic knowledge and skillsets whilst developing their confidence and improving their wellbeing through learning new skills, artistic mediums and socially engaging with other likeminded students.
