Confidence Building @ Armley Library

Course Aims – What you will learn

This course is aimed at students who access the facilities at Armley Library. It aims to develop and improve confidence and help improve mental health and wellbeing. This course is aimed at anyone wishing to improve their confidence within a safe, supportive environment. You will be taught methods and strategies of improving your confidence in relation to employment, upskilling or general everyday tasks you may struggle with. Our intention with this course is to provide an opportunity for those among our community who struggle with confidence to understand ways they can better themselves in a classroom of likeminded people.

How you will be taught, and your understanding checked

Your tutor will work with you to understand your comfort level at the start of the course and helping agree a learning plan for you to get the most out of this course. In class, your lessons will be delivered through a mix of whole class teaching, small group work, presentations, and open discussions to encourage the sharing of ideas and communication: all supported by your tutor. Students will develop their confidence through methods such as reflective statements, visualisation techniques and ‘draw my life’ imagery to obtain a new perspective on their own individual life journeys. Your tutor will support you to construct real life short and long-term goals and devise a progression system to help you achieve them. Your tutor will encourage you to develop your confidence in communication and creativity through a range of situations and provide feedback to ensure you are getting the most from the course.

Progression – What you will be able to do next

Following the successful completion of this course, we intend for each student to be able to maintain their improved sense of self-confidence and wellbeing and encourage them to further pursue their own personal goals. Students could enrol onto other courses at Swarthmore to continue developing their confidence and improving their wellbeing through learning new skills and socially engaging with other likeminded students. Alternatively, you can be supported to look for work or volunteering opportunities.
