Develop Green Skills and Gardening

Green Skills and Gardening in your community

Course Aims – What you will learn?

As part of our approach to supporting learners to develop essential skills for life and work, this Green Skills and Gardening class is designed for you to gain new skills whilst supporting your local community. You will learn about:

All materials and equipment will be provided for you. As well as learning the core skills and building confidence, by working independently and in small groups with your tutor, you will develop your wider skills such as:

  • A variety of green skills, including planting, garden and countryside maintenance
  • Horticulture
  • Working as a team, how to volunteer and best support your local community

How you will be taught, and your understanding checked?

  • Problem solving.
  • Team working.
  • Communication skills.
  • Resilience.

Your tutor will work with you to understand what you know already with green skills and what you want to be able to do. They will agree a learning plan for you to work towards. The project will be a mixture of whole class teaching, independent activity and small group work, all supported by your tutor. You will spend time outside of the classroom in the local community. Your tutor will talk to you about your progress and will give you feedback to help you continue to develop your skills and knowledge. You will complete a green skills project to benefit your local community.

Progression – What you will be able to do next?

On successful competition of the core modules, your tutor will talk to you about your progress and achievements. They will help you to decide what to do next, for example:

  • Continue your studies, for example, through an accredited horticulture course.
  • Start to learn another subject.
  • Look for work or volunteering opportunities.
  • Continue to contribute to your local community.
  • Use your new skills in everyday life.
