Natural Crafts for Wellbeing

On this course you will try a different craft each week such as weaving, whittling, felting, and others, all using natural or foraged materials, in a relaxed, inclusive, and social space surrounded by nature. Take time to relax and appreciate the nature around you while developing your creativity and improving your health and wellbeing Course Aims What you will learn: This course is specifically for those who would like to support positive wellbeing through learning new skills in nature. The course is aimed at people who are wanting to improve their health and wellbeing. On this course you will learn about: Foraging for materials Weaving Felting Whittling Creating items from natural materials As well as learning the core skills, by working in a small group with your tutor, you will also develop wider skills such as Confidence building Team Working Communication skills Study skills How you will be taught, and your understanding checked: All tools and materials required to achieve the course goals will be provided by us. The tutor will demonstrate techniques and the safe use of each tool that students will be using. Students will then attempt to make an item themselves with tutor support. Students are expected to attend all sessions, and if they can't make it to inform the class tutor or centre as soon as possible. Students are expected to record their learning and progress with the support of their tutor. Google Classroom will be used to support students learning. Access to this will be sent to you and we will support you to use it. The tutor will work with you to understand what you already know and what you want to achieve. They will agree a learning plan with you to work towards. The tutor will talk to you about your progress and will give you feedback to help you to continue to develop your skills and knowledge. The course will be a taught in a small group of no more than eleven and you will be fully supported by your tutor. The sessions will take place outside or in our roundhouse. Progression What you will be able to do next: On successful completion of the course, your tutor will talk to you about your progress and achievements. They will help you to decide what to do next, for example: Continue your studies and work towards a formal qualification Improve and maintain positive health and wellbeing Look for work or volunteering opportunities Use your skills in your everyday life Please note that this is a hands-on course that requires a level of dexterity, and you will be using sharp hand tools.
